Mississippi Lottery Corporation is looking for a social media hotshot, capable of wordsmithing posts and press releases. In this job, you’ll wear a lot of hats (not literally, but figuratively). The ideal candidate will brainstorm with our graphics gurus for appropriate images and artwork. If you’re the right person, you’ll interact with the public, both at the office and, occasionally, at on-site promotions; you’re quick (and good) with an iPhone camera and a whiz at knocking out posts/reports about winners.

Position Purpose:

The primary purpose of this position is to assist the Marketing and Communications department in implementing MLC’s communication and social media strategy.

Major Tasks, Responsibilities and Key Accountabilities:

The following duties are normal for this job and should not be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive.  Other duties may be required and assigned.

  • Overall Media and Public Relations duties:
    • Generate press releases in various required formats about new games, winners, promotions
    • Winner Awareness: Assist Director of Communications with greeting winners and gathering information and photos for social media, press releases and website
    • Generate Daily Winner report for internal use
    • Assist VP of Marketing with monthly ad billing cycle
    • Communication with employees regarding social media campaigns, giveaways, scams.
  • Social Media duties:
    • Help establish, develop and maintain visual brand strategy
    • Create and spearhead campaigns related to new games, promotions, giveaways with approval from Director of Communications
    • Monitor comments and messages
    • Publish winners
  • Event assistance may be required in conjunction with the Vice President of Marketing.

Education and/or Experience:

Experience in social media platforms preferred. Must possess excellent writing and verbal communication skills, along with proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word. Basic mechanical skills will be helpful. Experience in graphic design software encouraged.
